We took the family to the Nimbus Hatchery near Sacramento to see the amazing salmon journey! It was a really educational (and free!) outing. Q: Is it a good place to take kids? Can they see everything? A: Yes, it was great for the kids, and they were really focused on the action. It can get crowded, but there's a cool trick: they have a big mirror set up above the sorting table [05:30]. We just had the kids look up at the mirror, and they could see everything the workers were doing with the fish perfectly [03:27].

Q: What is the spawning process? What do they do with the fish? A: From what we gathered, they bring the fish in and sort them by male and female [03:44]. The guide mentioned that they give the fish a "little shock" to stun them so they don't move as much [05:07]. We also heard them talk about collecting the eggs [04:00] as part of the hatchery's process.

Q: Did you learn anything about the salmon's life cycle? A: We did! We overheard one of the guides explaining to a group that the salmon naturally die after they lay their eggs in the river [04:51]. It was a really interesting (and a little sad) part of the whole natural journey that we got to learn about.
