Eight Democrats broke with their party and struck a deal with Republicans to end the government shutdown in exchange for a future vote on extending enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies, putting Congress on a path to end the longest shutdown in US history within days.

A legislative package that could end the weekslong government shutdown leaves out any clear resolution on the expiring Affordable Care Act tax credits.
