Ms Taffy is the winner in a radio quiz and her prize is a piglet named Serena.
Serena is brought home to live in the city with Ms Taffy.
All Ms Taffy's friends and neighbours love having the piglet around and they all get used to her huge appetite for vegetables.
Slowly Serena grows bigger and bigger until she can no longer climb the stairs to Ms Taffy's third floor apartment. She also struggles to get through the doorways.
Just as Ms Taffy realizes that having a pig living upstairs in an apartment in the city can no longer work, her neighbourhood friends come up with a wonderful plan.
On a vacant lot (which has been donated by the kind owner) they all start planting seeds to grow vegetables for Serena.
In no time at all there are plenty of vegetables, more than sufficient to feed Serena.
She lives happily and comfortably in her new home and has food and friends aplenty.
