Ajay Shankar Prasanna, one of the leading International flautists of India, was born in a family of musicians .
He received his training in Flute from his ather- Pt. Bhola Nath Prasanna from the Banaras Gharana who is also the Guru of Pt. Hari Prasad Chaurasia.
A TOP grade artist at the All India Radio, Ajay has been nominated thrice for GRAMMY AWARD. Pt. Ajay Prasanna has also won "Global Indian Music Award" in the best fusion music album category for the album, "Cinema". He has received the "Sangeet Ratna Award" by Swami Haridas Samiti, Vrindavan and "Surmani Award" by Surshringar Sansad, Mumbai. Ajay Prasanna has also received the honorable "Bharat Gourav Samman" by the Orissa Academy of Tribal Culture Research & Performing Arts.
A rare combination of innovator and traditionalist, he has significantly expanded the expressive possibilities of North Indian classical Flute through his masterful blowing techniques. Ajay is well known for his incredible melody, fluency in his renditions, maturity and dexterity in his performance in both gayaki and tantrakari styles of playing.
Pt. Ajay’s stellar performances across the globe have left his audience spell bound. Some of his memorable performances include- World Flute Festival, Delhi; Classical music concert, Royal Albert Hall, London; Sankatmochan festival, Banaras; Delhi Classical music Festival, Rabindranath Tagore music festival, Kolkata; Vishnu Digambar Jayanti, Delhi; Viram Baithak, Dehradun; Swaranjali Music Concert, Delhi; Swami Haridas Sammelan, Vrindavan; Sangeet Sabha, Patiala; Sur singar festival, Mumbai; All India Radio Sangeet Sammelan, All across India etc.

Pt. Ajay Prasanna has several Indian classical solo albums to his credit. Some of them are as follows- Morning Melody by HMV Saregama, Whisper of the Winds by Navras Records, London; Music by Mood by HMV Saregama, Colors of Love by T Series; Rare Ragas on Flute by German Records, Germany; Moods of Krishna by T Series; Blissful Bamboo by HMV Saregama etc.

His strong roots in Indian classical music did not limit him to experiment with world music. Apart from performing solo Indian classical concerts around the globe, Pt. Ajay has collaborated with world artist like one of the greatest world musicians Pt. Ravi Shankar, Ustad Zakir Hussain, Ustad Sultan Khan, Sting, Alicia Keys etc. The best of both Indian classical music and Western music worlds, Pt. Ajay as a music composer, incorporates sounds from around the world into his music. His deep understanding of various kinds of music makes him an artist par excellence.
