Condensation on carpeted basement concrete floor. Natural humidity in the air permeates the carpet and the pad and then condensates on the concrete floor. At normal room temperature the humidity does not condensate out. But the concrete floor surface is colder than room temperature. It is colder because it IS the ground meaning somewhere between 52-55 degree Fahrenheit. The carpet and pad also insulate the concrete from the warmer room temperature, so the concrete stays cool, creating a condensation climate. This type of situation is also referred to as a micro climate. That is the climate right at the surface of the concrete.
So for us Water Damage Restoration guys it means that there could already be an issue under the carpet and there never was any previous flood ever. So there is damage, it is preexisting BUT there was never a preexisting flood damage . One way to lessen the possibility of having a problem is to always have a dehumidifier set to 50% Relative Humidity. This is not a cure but it will help.Don't know if I helped you guys or not.
