The Blood and Sand was an improv cocktail for the release party of the movie "Blood and Sand" in 1922. Harry Craddock later found the cocktail and put it in the Savoy Cocktail Book in 1930.

It is rare to find a popular scotch cocktail, especially one that features fresh fruit. This drink is polarizing, but it must be doing something right to still be popular after all these years. I think the Blood and Sand is a balanced and very interesting cocktail that works well with my pallete, and I think everyone should try this drink at least once!

RECIPE (syrup recipes below): Blood and Sand

.75oz | 22.5ml Blended Scotch
.75oz | 22.5ml Sweet Vermouth
.75oz | 22.5ml Cheery Heering
.75oz | 22.5ml Orange Juice

Garnish: Orange Peel or Cherry

Add ingredients into shaker and shake for 8-10 Seconds

Strain into stemmed glassware of your choice

Add your choice of garnish

ENJOY!

*Note: For a more intense scotch flavor try making it with an islay or "peaty" scotch and see which one you like more! Some versions of this cocktail will also replace the orange juice with pineapple juice.
