On this quick two day section hike, KrizAkoni meets up with Brant & Garvey to hike North along the Appalachian Trail to tent with “Sweeps” and “Mischief”, two other section hikers. We started at the ample parking at Elk Garden and hiked North to a great campsite on top of Pine Mountain, a ways past Thomas Knob Shelter. We returned via the Virginia Highlands Horse Trail to make a really nice loop. There are a few nice water sources along this loop with great tent sites nearby. We were fortunate that there were very few people on this part of the trail right after the Forest Service opened the trail heads. We awoke on Monday to the most epic sunrise, complete with cloud inversion and Ponies.
