According to Dror, Netanyahu’s long-term strategy was to weaken Palestinian unity by propping up Hamas as a counterweight to the Palestinian Authority, while funneling Qatari cash to keep temporary calm. Instead, those funds were diverted into tunnels, weapons, and a standing army. Dror insists Netanyahu’s policy created the very threat Israel now faces. The discussion also raises difficult questions about Qatar’s complicity- whether it turned a blind eye or quietly cooperated- and Washington’s role, given America’s massive military presence in Qatar.
