City Description:
Curitiba is the capital of the southern Brazilian state of Paraná. Notable skyline features include the Panoramic Tower, with an observatory on top. Known as a cultural center, Curitiba is home to a number of performance venues, including the Wire Opera House, a structure of tubular steel with a transparent roof, and the huge Teatro Guaíra, with diverse programs.In Curitiba’s historic center, 19th-century mansions and an 18th-century church are set around a square, Largo da Ordem. Nearby is the pedestrian-only Rua das Flores, with a lively cafe and bar scene. Green spaces break up the city, among them the Botanical Garden, with its dome-topped greenhouse, and Japan Square, which honors the city's large Japanese population. Notable art venues include the Oscar Niemeyer Museum, with its eye-shaped tower and contemporary art and architecture exhibits, and the Paranaense Museum, showcasing antiques and artifacts in a 19th-century mansion.

Weather and Events:
Peak travel season is summer (Dec–Feb), which is hot and humid. The Grape Festival (Feb), celebrates the city’s Italian heritage with wine, handicrafts and folk music. The Theater Festival (Mar–Apr) includes hundreds of shows, while the Imin Matsuri festival (Jun), features Japanese food, music and dance to mark the arrival of the first Japanese immigrants.
