Sandy Powell, Water Rat 506.
Born Albert Arthur Powell in Rotherham, Yorkshire on January 30th 1900 into a theatrical performing family. His mother was working the Halls as "Lily le Maine's Marionette Show" and by 5 years old Sandy was already in the act (mainly because he could work the puppets better than his Mother).
He soon was working solo as a comedian and the "Sandy Powell Road Show" was a guaranteed sell-out show. He also started performing on radio and once while recording he dropped the script and shouted out "Can you hear me, Mother?" to cover the time of collecting his words. True to British fans, the general public were repeating this line the next day and so it stuck as Sandy'd catchphrase.
He died in Eastbourne, June 26th 1982
