INTERNATIONAL DAY OF WORLD’S INDIGENIOUS PEOPLE

we are seeing the students representing different indigenous tribes of Arunachal Pradesh. These are signs of the beauty diversity that exists in our lovely states.
1. Tagin
The Tagins are one of the major tribes of Arunachal Pradesh, a member of the larger designation of the Tani clan. The Tagins are mostly settled in Upper Subansiri district and are also found in the adjoining parts of West Siang and in Shii-Yomi district. The Tagins celebrate Si-Donyi, a festival for the well being of community and mankind as a whole.

2. Galo
The Galo tribe is also a major tribe of Arunachal Pradesh. They are the descendants of the great ancestor Abotani clan. They are primarily concentrated in West Siang, Lower Siang, Leparada and in some parts of Upper Subansiri district. They follow Donyi Poloism and are well known for their rich traditions and delicious Aming. Mopin is the major community festival which is based on agriculture and is celebrated in the month of April every year.

3. Apatani
The tribe believed to be very hard working are the Apatanis who are primarily the inhabitants of Ziro plateau in lower Subansiri district. They practice a very unique form of agriculture, where fish and paddy are grown together i.e. paddy and fish cultivation. The Apatanis have a system of group cultivation called “Patang” in which all the workers form a group and work together under kinship system. The most important festival of the Apatani people is Dree, which is an agriculture festival, celebrated annually in the month of July.

4. Adi
The Adis are one of the most popular tribes in Arunachal Pradesh, who are believed to have descended from the Abotani. They are the inhabitants of East Siang, Lower Siang and Upper Siang and in some parts of Namsai district. Solung is the most commonly celebrated community festival.

5. Nocte
The Noctes are one of the major tribes of Arunachal Pradesh. They are distributed over the river valley that includes Tirap and Changlang district. Chalo Loku is the major festival of the tribe which lasts for three day.

6. Wancho
The Wancho people are the tribal inhabitants of the Patkai hills of Longding district of Arunachal Pradesh. They are ethnically related to Nocte and Konyak of Nagaland. Tattooing plays a major role among the Wancho people. The prime festival of the tribe is Oriah which is celebrated for a period of 6 days. The Wancho people are also known for their unique “Bamboo Dance” which is widely loved and appreciated by many people from different states.

7. Monpa
One of the major tribes of Arunachal Pradesh are the Monpas who are the inhabitants of the higher altitude of Tawang and western part of West Kameng district. The Monpas are generally adherent of the Tibetant Buddhism. The important festival of Monpa is Losar, which signifies the coming of the tibetan’s new year.

8. Khamti
One of the tribes of #Arunachal #Pradesh, the Khamti people are the inhabitants of Namsai district of the state and are the followers of the Theravada Bhudhism. Khamtis are known to have their own written script. Sangken is the main festival of the tribe involving splashing of clean water which is a symbol of peace and purity.

9. Nyishi
The Nyishi community is the largest ethnic group in Arunachal Pradesh. They are spread across 8 districts of AR - Papum Pare, East Kameng, Kurung Kumey, Kra Daadi, Kamle, Pakke Kesang and some parts of Lower Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh. They are the descendants of Abotani - their forefather. Nyokum is the main festival of the Nyishis which is celebrated for good harvest and wellness of human beings.
