One of my favorite songs, off one of my favorite albums, by one of my favorite bands. Vheissu was (and remains) a huge influence on my own songwriting, and this song in particular has stuck with me as a fun one to headbang along to over the years - this song definitely slaps. Thrice themselves have said it's one of their favorites to play live, and after doing it myself I can see why.
I'm pretty sure they used a baritone guitar on this track, so since I don't have one I improvised by simply downtuning the bottom string to low A. It seemed to have a similar effect and gave my low notes a ton of extra chunk. Which, for such a heavy song, is absolutely awesome in my opinion.
I was surprised at how complex some of the instrumentation was (particularly the bass) for such a simple-sounding song. I'm also aware that I'm not exactly the world's greatest screamer, but that's part of why I'm doing this project - I want to challenge myself and push the boundaries of what I would normally play and/or sing. In any case, I made it through the song without ruining my voice, so I'd call that a win. 😁

As always, every part was recorded in one take with any mistakes left intact, and there is no pitch correction on the vocals, nor any additional fixes or processing other than mild EQ, reverb and compression.
