ABANDONED STAR MINING CAMP, ELKO COUNTY, NEVADA

Описание к видео ABANDONED STAR MINING CAMP, ELKO COUNTY, NEVADA

In 1865 a 1500 acre ranch was established in Harrison Pass and by 1897 mining activity started. In 1916 a Scheelite deposit was found and mining camps were erected for this load as well as others. By the 1940s there was a school.

The Star Mine is at an elevation of 6499'. It was a tungsten mineral mine. It was a surface and underground mine. It was productive from 1941 to 1949.

The mill was totally destroyed by fire on February 25, 1943. It was not insured. Since tungsten was of great value at the time, it is believed that aid in replacing the damage may have come from the United States government.

There was a caretaker that lived on the property for a long time but it's obvious that no one has been living in this area for a great number of years.
