What is Behavioral Ecological Economics?

In late 2022, we recognized the increasing attention being paid to Behavioural, Experimental, and Ecological Economics and saw an opportunity to bridge these fields. Strikingly, no substantial effort had yet been made to bridge these fields. Motivated by this gap, we organized the inaugural Workshop in Behavioral Ecological Economics in Florence in July 2023. The workshop brought together a vibrant mix of young and senior scholars, fostering stimulating discussions and collaborations. It also led to the launch of the related special issues in Ecological Economics, which received an overwhelming response—nearly 150 submissions!

In this webinar, we will reflect on key insights gained from the submitted articles and explore future directions for research in Behavioral Ecological Economics. Emphasizing the interplay between individual behaviors and collective actions, we will highlight the need for multiscale interventions and the reimagining of paradigms to foster a fairer and more sustainable world.
