Watch this major relocation of a bottle tree (Brachychiton rupestris), at a site in Wynnum, Brisbane, Australia. Carrying out transplants on trees of this size is no small project, so big equipment is needed to ensure the tree is protected and the job runs as smoothly as possible.

The trees on this site needed to be relocated due to construction influences and space requirements. First, the team excavate the root ball of the tree, and install a lifting frame. A 220 ton crane is then used to lift the supported tree (which had a lift weight of 38.5 ton), on the back of low loader transporter where it was then shifted to its final planting site.

The tree featured in this video is approximately 100 years old, with a height of 13.5 meters, and a width of 10.5 meters. Planning and preparation for this project took three months, followed by a maintenance period of 24 months. This transplanting operation was managed and overseen by, Daniel Oaten, Chief Arborist based at Treescape’s Wacol support office.
