I wanted to demonstrate how I use my CNC as a “shooting board”. I’m able to accurately dial in incredibly shallow passes finer than a blade. The results are amazing. I actually retired my shooting board and jointer. I use the CNC exclusively now as a jointer. I started off with some sapele and maple but changed my mind and ended up using black walnut and Claro walnut. The process was the same, I just didn’t film it.

I use very fine step overs for the finishing passes on the back carves, .3mm. This produces a nice finish that requires little sanding. On the cavity I didn’t use any finishing passes. It is a straight up adaptive tool path. I push my machine hard to get fast tool path times. That results in a poorer finish but less time. The cavity will be slathered in shielding paint so no one will ever see the rough tool marks.

I really like the cubby hole system for the cavity. I think when all the internal components are in there they are going to look really neat and tidy.
