Kazakhstan, Astana - Walking around Saints Constantine and Helen Orthodox Cathedral

Описание к видео Kazakhstan, Astana - Walking around Saints Constantine and Helen Orthodox Cathedral

Summer is finally here, and let's hope it's here to stay. I am so tired of coldness, grey colors and water falling from the sky almost every day. But now it's all over and it's hot as hell. In other words, this is the best time to have a walk. Never in my life I've been so happy to get a sunburn.

For the most part, this walk took place at the territory of Saints Constantine and Helen Orthodox Cathedral and surrounding areas. Plus some backyards, a couple of murals and trademark Astana pipes everywhere.

0:00 - Start of the walk! The exact address is Amangeldi Imanov St, 9. We are not at the cathedral yet. Instead, we have a huge glasses right in front of us. We encountered the glasses before (   • Kazakhstan, Astana - Walking around t...  ), but in general this part of Amangeldi Imanov St wasn't explored by us. That's why I decided to start here.
0:10 - Heading west on Amangeldi Imanov St.
0:24 - I love to record places like these. Don't know if they are any good for sitting and relaxing, but for walking and recording they are gold.
1:11 - Sparrows.
2:06 - Corner of Amangeldi Imanov St and Malik Ghabdullin St. Let's cross to the opposite side and continue moving west.
2:43 - Power control boxes are often decorated in some manner.
4:13 - Some curious architecture. Nothing historically important, just a decoration of a restaurant that went bankrupt. Still, looks nice with all that vegetation.
5:58 - Ahead of us is the corner of Amangeldi Imanov St and Respublika Ave, but we already visited it on a couple of occasions (   • Kazakhstan, Astana - Walking down Res...  ,    • Kazakhstan, Astana - Walking from the...  ), so we won't go there this time. Instead, we are going to dive into the backyards.
6:43 - Now, look at this piping paradise! And with a bridge, of course!
7:37 - This configuration of pipes is very common in the ex-Soviet countries.
8:10 - Emerging from the backyards. Respublika Ave is right in front of us.
8:27 - Stairs! I must climb, sorry. Even though it is obvious, that there is nothing up there.
10:04 - Heading south on Respublika Ave. We haven't visited this side before.
10:15 - Notice Kazakhstan flags on the balconies.
11:17 - Corner of Respublika Ave and Ghumar Qarash St. Let's head east from here.
12:20 - Saints Constantine and Helen Orthodox Cathedral. This cathedral was raised in 1902. As for the name, Constantine was a Roman emperor, who played a huge role in a rise of Christianity. His mother Helena is considered to be a discoverer of some of the most important relics of Christian tradition: the True Cross, Jesus' empty tomb and others.
I usually don't comment much on religious topics. Too easy to offend someone. So just enjoy the walk.
18:09 - Leaving the territory of the cathedral. Back to Respublika Ave. Heading south.
22:00 - Corner of Respublika Ave and Ramazan St.
22:32 - A fountain. It is known, that I have a curse of fountains. They never work, when I arrive with the camera. This one is equally strange with or without water, though, so you don't miss much. I mean, turtles? How come?! But at least it gives us something to discuss.
23:15 - Heading east on Ramazan St.
25:31 - This school has a mural dedicated to Jumabek Tashenev and a yurt. It looks like almost every school here has some distinctive decoration.
25:50 - Going south via a small alley.
26:29 - Abubakir Ysmayylov St. From here we will go west and after that we will go south through some backyards.
28:49 - Some more pipes. I hope, newer areas of Astana keep the pipes exposing tradition alive.
30:56 - Another example of interesting building decoration.
31:09 - Back to Respublika Ave.
31:21 - A cat.
31:30 - A plaque dedicated to Jakyp Omarov, a theatre director.
32:12 - A mural. Or bas-relief, probably.

And now, my walk has ended...

The walk took place on 9 June 2024.

Walker: Evgeniy.
