Coming from offline render engines like V-Ray, sometimes it is hard to wrap your head around the lighting techniques in Unreal Engine and real time rendering. The entire theory and workflow is somewhat foreign. This video attempts to explain the workflow for UE4, for those of us who come from a different background and are not used to these kinds of settings.

The three major categories covered are these:
Different types of lights / shadows, and when to use each
Optimizing your light map density for good shadow results
Light bake / lightmass settings for a good global illumination calculation in your light bake

You will find that if the different tools are used effectively, you can get very nice global illumination (GI) results with your light bake in UE4. You can also get nice results with dynamic shadows that can calculate accurately in real time while you are playing your game, or exploring your arch viz space.

Software Used:
Epic Games Unreal Engine 4 | UE4 version 4.19
Modeling done in 3ds Max
Substance Material from Substance Source used with Unreal Engine Substance Plugin
