This variable track selector design fits into a compact space and the user interface is flush against the wall. It uses a one-block wide RS-latch array, using comparators to make it a variable-input memory cell. The purpose of this minecart station is that you can select a destination. All destinations return back to one arrival bay. The station clears your selection after departure. You can install a detector rail at your departure bay, leading to note blocks below for a departure chime, or on the opposite end a detector rail for an arrival chime.

After so many complex and oversized designs... 7 years later, CNB Minecraft's Compact Minecart Station is still the best. Though it suffers without the redstone comparator to make the input variable, it compact use of a rudimentary RS-NOR latch makes it useable even in 1.13.2. This design somewhat improves on it.. but CNB's usage of a repeater-into-block design for his RS-latch array only works because the S-inputs are independent of each other. My design has variable input, so the dimensions are two blocks higher to carry the output over to the lights on the interface.
