Описание к видео St Dunstan's & All Saints Church, Stepney E1. A full tour + historical photos. See description

And to end off our sunday = Join me in Stepney London E1, for a full exterior & interior tour of The beautiful old church of St Dunstan's & All Saints. Filmed on Friday 23rd June 2023.

A fascinating one this + some personal ancestry links "covered in this video + copies of original parish records." Known as The Mother Church to The East End + Church of the High Seas! This church, is really where many Eaatenders "may find their roots." + a fascinating one = for its links to the world & industries of Shipping & Maritime, interests!

There has been a church on this site, since the 600s "originally being a Saxon Wooden Chapel = which owed its roots, to the the Augustine conversion of Pagans to Christians." Then, that wooden Chapel = was re-founded by St Dunstan himself, in the 950s with the first stone church, on the site = & was then called All Saints Stepney. "a remnant of which = still exists & lies within the church nowadays." That church, was then consecutively rebuilt in the 13th & 15th centuries & renamed in honour of the Sainted Dunstan = Man - Bishop - & Saint!! + some 19th century additions "like the South Porch & Octagonal Church Building." Leaving us today, with a church that is mostly 15th century = with a 12th century Chancel + the few 19th century additions." Whereas, during the Blitz of WW2 "the surrounding area = was bombed into near or total destruction" St Dunstan's survived, relatively well "certainly compared to the fate of its neighbours." it did have its windows blown out + some minor damage to roof & bell tower! that was quickly repaired = post war "with some slight interior adjustments/changes." giving us the beautiful old church, we can see & enjoy today."

There are many monuments & Tombstones in this one "a few of them, are to interesting/famous historical figures." + beautiful architecture & replacement stained glass! All of which, are fully covered, in this tour! My favourite elements being = The 10th century Carved Stone Holyrood "which dates to the time of St Dunstan & the founding of his Stone Church, in the 950s." + the person ancestry links to this church = we even get to see copies of original parish records "2 christenings + a marriage."

A history = well over a thousand years old! linked to St Augustine & the early conversion of the Anglo-Saxons = Then to Dunstan The Bishop of Stepney "later canonised & raised to sainthood." Then to its Maritime & Mercantile links + Being Mother-Church to The East End. Then at the end of the tour = we jump back in time "with a look at historical images of the church." which illustrate, how its changed over its long life.

Sorry if this one was a bit long = But, so much to cover! Hope you all enjoyed ✌️
