Louis Jean Lumière and Auguste Lumière were French brothers (the Lumiere Brothers) who were engineers and industrialists who played a key role in the development of photography and cinema. They came up with a new process for film development using a dry plate. Later they manufactured photography equipment known as the Cinématographe motion picture system. They used it to make short films between 1895 and 1905, which places them among the earliest filmmakers ever. Their films captured genuine everyday moments rather than staged drama, which helped laid the groundwork for both documentary and slice of life filmmaking .
