Tengku Mahkota of Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah expressed his anger and deep regret at the actions of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who deliberately belittled and disputed the duties and role of the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah during his reign as the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

In a statement issued by Istana Abdulaziz, Tengku Hassanal wants the police to take decisive action without compromise against the Perikatan Nasional chairman for touching on 3R issues (royalty, religion, and race).

Tengku Hassanal described the statement by the former prime minister and veteran politician as having manipulated the facts and brought a negative narrative to the people that Al-Sultan Abdullah seemed to be unfair when electing the 10th Prime Minister.

In the statement, he said, Muhyiddin’s statement looks immature, it seems as if he still cannot accept that he was not appointed as the prime minister.

Tengku Hassanal said, based on Article 40(2) of the Federal Constitution, the prime minister is appointed at the discretion of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong who acts as Head of State.

Article 43(2) stipulates that the prime minister must be appointed from among the members of the House of Representatives who, in his opinion, have the confidence of the majority of the members of the House.

Tengku Hassanal said Al-Sultan Abdullah did not arbitrarily decide to appoint the prime minister even though the constitution gave him absolute power.
