This bizarre mouthpiece led me down quite a rabbit hole! Some claim the Rudy Muck 17C is a massive orchestral mouthpiece, and some find it to be a mouthpiece so small that only the most conditioned lead trumpet player could produce a sound on it. To my understanding, this particular one seems to have a fairly small internal diameter around 15.8-16.0mm and a depth around a Bach D or E, depending on the model. Definitely WAY out of my comfort zone as a 'bucket' player who favors deep, 17mm-and-up cups. Not to mention that thick, padded rim made slurs and shakes nearly impossible for me. It was silly of me to think I could do any amount of decent playing on this thing, but nonetheless it made for a fun research project and video, and I hope you feel similarly. Enjoy a rough demo of a rare vintage piece of equipment with excerpts from Buddy Bregman's "Wild Party"
