Welcome to Part 2! In this episode, I'll show you how I build our garden bed cage housing, following up from Part 1 of how we DIY’ed our garden beds.

When selecting a location for our garden beds, we were limited to this area, but the area is quite problematic. It receives intense sunlight, especially during the summer months. Previous attempts to grow anything here have failed miserably without daily maintenance as the heat and UV rays just burn up my plants. I knew the plants here would need some type of shade, but it was important to make it subtle. This led to the idea of creating this house shape structure with a shade over it.

Although my initial purpose for making this was to create a shade canopy, it also serves effectively as a pest deterrent. Our garden is situated near a large tree that accommodates various bird species, and our neighborhood periodically experiences visits from rats and rabbits. Overall, it is an excellent deterrent for predators, as we haven’t encountered any issues with animals or larger insects eating away at our harvest.
