Описание к видео FISH Medical Technology Trials: Empowering Remote Communities through Co-design

One of FISH’s aims is to improve patient health outcomes and to Close the Gap in health equity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, especially for those living remotely, by testing and implementing innovative digital health technologies.

Through education, training and access to digital health technologies we empower people who live on country to be more in control of their own health.

Together with our partners, we commenced a phased stage by-stage framework, to engage the remote Aboriginal Communities of Muludja and Bawoorrooga in the Kimberley in their own health outcomes through a co-design process where we empowered the communities to lead the initiative from the initial invitation to be on community through to the design and evaluation process.

FISH co-ordinated a national and international team of medical technology innovators. We took Telehealth solutions to people living on remote communities for the first time.

FISH are proud to partner with Rukshen Weerasooriya, a cardiologist specialist & his team at CloudHolter, Esther Oh from Agili8, Dr. Teck Jack TAN & the TeleMedC Team working with Professor Yogi Yogesan Kanagasingam & The University of Notre Dame Australia, who were willing to commit to the co-design process & work with the communities & other technology companies in the delivery of the trials. This process proved to be more cost effective & ensured the communities only dealt with one trial integrating 3 interrelated technologies instead of 3 different trials impacting the community.

Communities asked us to work directly with them and not through a government agency so that the community had control on the project, their voices were heard and that it addressed their needs.

Both communities face harsh challenges, with limited access to internet connection, and no onsite medical facilities. There was a strong interest in exploring digital health care technology options, especially where this leads to a better standard of care on country.

At the heart of our trial was a commitment to connect Aboriginal people with health challenges to medical professionals, while living in their communities on country.

The failed Voice Referendum results reinforced our determination at FISH, to ensure the voices of Indigenous Communities are valued, listened to and acted upon together to solve the major challenges needed to Close the Gap.

We acknowledge now more than ever; listening with respect, valuing what is said, and real action is required, for Community members to heal after a conflicting and hurtful time.

Please take the time to listen to the words of Scott Wilson who speaks about the importance of the codesign process and the empowerment of his community as a national proto-type of how things should be done !
