To generate PWM signal for an inverter, a common practice is to compare the reference signal with a triangular or a sawtooth wave form, whenever the reference signal is larger than the carrier signal, the PWM will be ON and otherwise it is OFF. The question is why do we only use these waveforms and no other waveforms, such as sinusoidal waveform as carrier signal. In this video i explain the reason behind this.
