Kayhan Kalhor, Master Kamāncheh Player

Описание к видео Kayhan Kalhor, Master Kamāncheh Player

Hear renowned Iranian musician Kayhan Kalhor perform on this exquisite kamāncheh and explain its symbolism. This historically important instrument is so revered that it has a poetic name: “Zendegi”—Persian for “life.” It is the most ornate of only seven kamānchehs known to exist today by legendary luthier Karam Khan and was made sometime between 1750 and 1794. The silver carving on the bottom of the kamāncheh’s neck is of an ancient bird in Persian mythology called a simurgh, a figure with great wisdom.
