The Onvo L60 was a surprise package found at the recent Shanghai Auto Show. Onvo is a division of Chinese car maker Nio and interestingly, Onvo produces cars that undercut the Nio's premium marketplace only just. That is to say that Onvo vehicles feel premium and loaded with technology.

On both vehicle brands, there is a battery swap technology and that is Nio's point of difference over the entire EV Market space. To be able to drive into a Nio battery garage and swap out a battery inside in 3 minutes negates any concern about charge time and charge anxiety.

The big question, however, is the location and availability of charge locations in China. These are becoming more prevalent but as Nio desires to launch into foreign markets with the head brand, Onvo and Firefly, they have a mission in front of them with regards to infrastructure.

The other great benefit of the battery swap is the option to not actually buy a battery at the point of purchase. This might be as much as a 10,000 US dollar savings.

With that much removed from the price of the new vehicle, buyers will rejoice.

The Onvo L60 is otherwise a very comfortable and well-appointed SUV style electric vehicle. Standout features include electric door opening, heads up display, and a screen mounted on the rear of the centre console for rear seat passengers to operate controls and watch movies.

On the vehicle we inspected, there was also a wonderful optional 52L fridge freezer mounted on a wellspace in the trunk/boot. This is an exciting innovation sure to please daytrippers and beachgoers.
