Over the years I've written at least half a dozen arrangements of Silent Night. In some regards, this arrangement is the best because it's the one that stays closest to the original Christmas carol.

In that sense, this duet is an extension of the duet series that lead to the publishing of our 21 Trumpet Hymn Duets book. In that series, the objective was to create trumpet duet music that was 100% appropriate for traditional church services by honoring the mood and harmonies of the original hymns. Now, we are extending that same approach to the Christmas carols.

This is only the third trumpet duet in this new, Christmas carol series. We have more on the way. Just as with the Trumpet Hymn Duets, this new series is NOT supposed to be experimental and hugely expressive. As the arranger, I am not trying to write anything impressive. I have hundreds of compositions and arrangements behind me. I don't need to use these Christmas carol duets to prove myself.

The end result is that the beauty of the original Christmas carol shines through the arrangement. How awesome is that? We like when that happens. More people enjoy the music that way.
