How to create repeated patterns in illustrator | Types of Tessellation methods | seamless patterns

Repeated patterns are every where around us. Repeated Floor tiles,
Seamless wall paper textures, seamless fabrics, clothing and so on. You thinking how these designers make a repeated patterns without any overlaps or gaps? In other words how to create seamless tiling pattern or how to make repeated texture without gaps. This is a video for you. Yes, Basically it is called tessellation. Tessellation is both math and art, that makes the patterns that fit perfectly together without any gaps. Let us look at what are the types of tessellation methods and how to create seamless tessellation pattern.

There are three types of method in tessellation patterns.

Method 1 : Translation method
Whatever you remove from or add to the geometry, you should put it back to remove it from the geometry to the opposite edge. Basically you are sliding the portion to the opposite side.

Method 2 : Rotation method
Whatever you remove from or add to the geometry, you should put it back to the geometry with rotation method. Meaning you rotate the removed portion and placing it on the adjacent side of it.

Method 3 :Reflection method (in other words mirror method)
Whatever you remove from or add to the geometry, you should put it back to remove it from the geometry to the opposite edge, but you should mirror it. Basically you are sliding the portion to the opposite edge and mirroring within the same edge itself.
