An accessibility conference held at De Montfort University in Leicester asked why the POC community faces greater barriers to the creative industry than their white counterparts.

Inviting black, brown and minority ethnic creatives, the ‘All Shades of Brown’ conference, not only aimed to tackle questions on creative access but also uplift and inspire through a host of talks, workshops and exhibitions.

The day featured talks on motivation, sustainability and mentorship from the likes of British photographer, artist and activist Pogus Caesar, and multidisciplinary artist Gaylene Gould.

Asked what she hoped to gain from the conference, attendee Jodie Worton said: “It’s to fill me up … to make me feel nourished. The fact that this for brown and POC creatives is very very important to me and especially seeing (their) work dotted around.”
