ESTROUS CYCLE STAGES:

PROESTRUS:

It is the stage before the Estro. The Luteal Body regresses, and the levels of Progesterone are lowered. There is an increase in estradiol due to follicular growth.

ESTRUS

There is a peak of Estradiol, which causes the peak of LH.

METAESTRUS

Initial formation of the Luteal Body, begins to increase Progesterone and decreases Estradiol.

DIESTRUS

Progesterone levels remain elevated, where pregnancy can occur; Estradiol is at low levels. And there are pulses of LH and FSH, due to a high Progesterone.

TO BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT

In domestic animals, the growth of the follicles is not affected during the luteal phase. Follicle maturation usually occurs in waves during the estrous cycle. It can occur from two to three waves per cycle (mostly).

PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS

The ability of PG-F2a to induce luteolysis has been used to manipulate the estrous cycle and induce labor.
