The Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) has ruled on the case between former Vice President Chief Sam Sumana and the APC, and the outcome is mixed.

The PPRC ordered the APC to correct Sam Sumana’s membership records, saying the party should withdraw the membership card issued to him in 2023 and replace it with one dated 2020. This means the Commission recognises that his connection with the APC goes back earlier than the party recently claimed.

However, the PPRC also ruled that Article 56(b) of the APC Constitution is valid and legal and does not break Sierra Leone’s Constitution. This rule still stands and can affect Sam Sumana unless the APC decides to change it.

In simple terms, Sam Sumana won on the issue of his membership records, but the APC won on its internal rules. The ruling does not automatically clear him to contest for leadership positions. It is therefore a partial win for Sam Sumana, not a complete victory.
