Ego Power Snow Blower SNT2100 - Unboxing plus Operating Review

In November 2018, we ordered the EGO Power Snow Blower Model Number SNT2100, which runs on two 56 volt, 7.5 Amp Hour batteries. The machine was delivered to our home just before the first snow storm to hit Boston on November 15, 2018. Unfortunately, the machine arrived without the batteries, though Home Depot promises these will arrive within three days of the delivery of the machine. This model sells for $799 and normally has to be ordered. However, most Home Depots in the northeast carry another version of this model but with two 56 volt, 5.0 Amp Hour batteries. That particular model costs $599. I prefer the more expensive 7.5 Amp Hour batteries because they will hold a charge significantly longer, and I have to plow a driveway that is 200 feet long and more than 20-feet wide. Most home owners will do fine with the 5.0 Amp Hour batteries, but a minority that do longer snow plowing will appreciate the 7.5 Amp Hour option.
Partisans of gasoline powered equipment will snarl that it would take over five years to spend $200 extra on gas and oil for a conventional snow blower. Nevertheless, I like to make heavy use of cordless electric snow blowers because the gasoline models increasingly run into problems with the Ethanol gasoline favored by politicians from the farm belt. Some power equipment companies will not honor warranties if your power equipment breaks down and they claim you left Ethanol gas in the tank for more than a month or two. But one of the big advantages of the cordless models is that they are much quieter than gas-powered machinery. It is good to avoid complaints from hotheaded urban neighbors if you are plowing snow before 6 am in the morning. Also women in particular have expressed their preference for lighter cordless machines, which are much easier to maneuver than most gasoline-powered snow blowers.
In this review, we borrowed one 5.0 Amp Hour battery from an EGO lawn mower, and it was good enough to power this normally two-battery machine during a three-inch snowstorm in the western part of Boston. It cleared this snow with ease!
