Описание к видео Khonglam Dance of Chiru Tribe of Manipur - Hindi

Deep in the hills of Manipur is the Bungte Chiru village. This village is home to the Chiru Tribe. The Chiru are considered to be one of the many Naga tribes living in the state of Manipur.
The word Chiru translates to `the seed of a plant’. It is noted that the community has been living in Manipur since the 12th century AD. According to the ancestors and legends, the Chiru originated from the location where land snail (kongrap) did originate. It is firmly believed that the mass immigration of the Chirus started from Mongolia. They moved to Mizoram then Tripura and then later on to Manipur. The origin and migration of the Chiru indicate their movements from one place to another in search of a prosperous and peaceful place to live.
They have been recognized as a Schedule tribe by the Government of India since 1950. Their total population according to a 2011 report is around 8599. Presently, there are thirteen Chiru villages in Manipur.
