The Ministry of Education has officially abolished the 'No-Detention Policy' for students in classes 5 and 8 of all government schools, a change that allows students who fail their exams to get another chance before being promoted. Tamil Nadu Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi confirmed the state will continue following the policy up to class 8. The policy, introduced in 2009 under the Right to Education Act, aimed to reduce school dropouts by preventing students from being held back. However, it faced opposition due to its impact on academic performance, leading many states to scrap it.
