1960s. House in Japan.

Exterior or large Japanese house in the countryside or mountains, with a small river outside. Small scenic decorative waterfall, covered in plants and moss, panning to some leaves. Moss covered rocks in a lake or pond, tranquil. Japanese woman in a kimono walks past the pond into her house, and takes off her shoes. Sandals and shoes in the doorway of the house. Large square television with aerials on the floor of the house. Baseball, catchers mitt and baseball bat resting on a bamboo floor. Painting of a sparrow or starling flying around a bamboo shoot. A single purple flower in a wicker pot, panning to a Japanese woman in a kimono laying out caligraphy supplies. Woman looks down intensely. Hands writing kanji or katakana; a haiku. Woman recites the haiku, then pan back to the flower.

Huntley Film Archives is a film library holding tens of thousands of films. The large majority of the films are documentaries. Films cover a wide range of subjects and production dates range from the 1890’s to the 2020’s. As with all libraries we make no judgement on the content of our holdings and make them available for educational purposes for all to see. Films may have content or express opinions some may think inappropriate or offensive, but it is not the work of a library to censor educational resources. Films should be viewed with historical objectivity and within a context relevant to the times in which they were produced
