HEAR Journaling 1 Chronicles Chapter 24

Highlight – 1 Chronicles 24:5-6 New Living Translation
5 All tasks were assigned to the various groups by means of sacred lots so that no preference would be shown, for there were many qualified officials serving God in the sanctuary from among the descendants of both Eleazar and Ithamar. 6 Shemaiah son of Nethanel, a Levite, acted as secretary and wrote down the names and assignments in the presence of the king, the officials, Zadok the priest, Ahimelech son of Abiathar, and the family leaders of the priests and Levites. The descendants of Eleazar and Ithamar took turns casting lots.

Explain – The selection and assignments of duties were done by sacred lots and recorded in the presence of King David, the officials, the priest, and family leaders. This was performed openly and recorded so that no one would perceive preferential treatment and also future generations had a record for their reference.

Apply – God did not want any opportunity of envy, jealousy, or offense by anyone by conducting the selection process this way. The results were open for all to see and recorded for all to know. We would be wise in our decision making to leave no appearance of favoritism, but to love all and treat all as we would want to be treated.

Matthew 7:12 ESV “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

Luke 6:31 ESV And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them.

Galatians 5:14 ESV For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

Leviticus 19:18 ESV You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.

James 2:8 ESV If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing well.

Mark 12:31 ESV The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

Respond- Thank You Lord for Your wisdom. I strive to Love You Lord with all my heart, mind, soul, and strength; and to love others as I do myself, to see them with Your eyes. Help me be wise in all my decisions. I pray for others that do not know You. Amen.
