Recently the three Presidents of the Freely Associated States - Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), Republic of Palau, and the Republic of the Marshall Islands sent a letter to the US Congress. They have joined forces to ask for some movement and action on the ratification of the Compact of Free Association.
The Compact was signed by the FSM last year, ratified by the FSM Congress, and has sat in the US Congress with little to no action. This is the third iteration of the compact. In return for full control of our air and sea space, we only ask for this. Not too much of an ask when we are seeking $140 million per year shared among 4 state governments and one national government.
We hope this will be resolved as soon as possible. We are in a supposed strategic geo-political position here in what is now called the Indo Pacific. Prove it and sign our compact.
