GODAN DEMONSTRATION - Richard van Berkum - TRADITIONAL AIKIDO EUROPE

TAE Summer Camp 2022 - Urnäsch, Switzerland

For the rank of Godan (5th Dan) the candidate is required to present a demonstration in front of a Special Dan Grade Committee, consisting of the TAE examiners. This can be freely chosen by the candidate and should be a clear and personal expression of their understanding and ability in Aikido.

🔻 Richard van Berkum - 5th Dan Aikikai

Richard started training Aikido in 1996 and switched to Takemusu Aikido in 2000. From 2007 to 2013 he trained and taught with Lewis Bernaldo de Quirós in Zutphen. In 2013 he took over the dojo in Zutphen from Lewis (after he moved to Spain), and has been teaching there ever since.

🔻 Sascha Pihan - 4th Dan Aikikai

In 2003 Sascha started his Aikido journey in the Aikido Union Deutschland. The Frankfurt Dojo was connected to Rolf Brand and Erhard Altenbrand, both students of Yoshimasa Kimura and André Nocquet. At a semester abroad in Japan he practiced lwama Ryu for the first time and fell in love with their bukiwaza system. Back home he was a student of Anita Köhler sensei for more than ten years and also followed her teacher Christian Tissier sensei. In 2017 Sascha found Lewis de Quiros sensei on Youtube and since then, he constantly strives to improve his weapon skills by visiting seminars of Lewis and of other teachers from the Aikido Föderation Deutschland. He is a 4th Dan Aikikai and is teaching regularly in Darmstadt, Germany.

🔻 Michael Ormerod - 3rd Dan Aikikai

Michael began his training in Aikido at the age of 15 in the UK. He has trained extensively throughout Europe and undertaken an intensive training period in Japan under the guidance of Hiroki Nemoto Sensei (7th Dan) and training in the Founder’s Dojo in Iwama and the Hombu Dojo in Tokyo. In 2016, he began a full-time apprenticeship under his teacher Lewis Bernaldo de Quiros (6th Dan Aikikai Shihan), training and teaching in the Takemusu Aikido Motril Dojo and attending international seminars as assistant to Sensei de Quiros. In 2019, Michael received the rank of Sandan (3rd Dan) from the Aikikai in Japan, Tokyo. Early 2020 saw the creation of the Takemusu Aikido Online Dojo, as a response to the Covid Pandemic – giving people the opportunity to continue their daily practice and the comfort of knowing that Aikido is just a click away under any circumstances. Michael also serves as technical support for Chet Valley Aikido (based in Norfolk, UK) which was established in September 2020.

Bernie Gitmans started Aikido at the age of 24. This was in 2002 in Tilburg. After various wanderings, he started in 2009 at Miraiki Aikido in Haaren, under the late Hannie op ’t Hoog. He provided the children's lessons within the Miraiki dojo under Hannie and was thus able to become acquainted with teaching under supervision. Besides monthly participation in the lessons at Takemusu Aikido Weesp, weekly lessons within Aikikai Aikido Ryushinkan Boxtel and daily online lessons via the Takemusu Aikido Online Dojo, he also attends international seminars with various teachers including Lewis Bernaldo de Quiros.
