Bees from Megachilidae family are commonly known as leafcutter bees for their unique behaviour of nesting. These bees have very sharp mandibles that are used to cut out leaves in form of almost semicircles, that they carry back to their nest. Tbey roll up these leaves to form their nest in the cracks and crevices of cement walls, holes in pvc pipes or earthen garden pots. These bees not only use leaves from various trees like Clitoria (aparajita), Psidium(guava), Bauhinia(kanchan) etc but also cut out portions of bougainvillea and otjer flower petals that sometimes adds colours to their nests.
