After realizing there is no tethering Ariel to the sea floor, Ariel’s father attempts to cut her ties and dream of being with Prince Eric on land, but this action only further pushes the young mermaid away... giving someone else an opportunity. In her darkest moment Ariel was approached by the minions of the sea witch Ursula who convinces her to achieve her dreams she’s going to have to forge her own path; to get what she wants, to be with her Prince, the princess must sign her life away… perfectly leading into the villain song Poor Unfortunate Souls.
