If you're importing goods from India into South Africa, here's a warning you can't afford to ignore. SARS now has access to India's ICEGATE system—and they're watching.

SARS (South African Revenue Service) is monitoring Indian export data via the ICEGATE platform, and if there's any mismatch between your declared import values and the Indian exporter’s declared export values, you’ll be the one held accountable.

This new level of transparency is especially important for importers dealing with subsidised exports from India. If the Indian exporter overstates the value on their end, and you under-declare on your bill of entry in South Africa, SARS may penalise you for under-valuation—even if it wasn’t your fault.
