Embroidery Stitch Tutorial

The bullion stitch takes a little bit of practice and hand coordination, but once you get the hang of it it's a lot of fun. It adds lovely texture to your embroidery projects and can be used to create cute floral and decorative elements.

The bullion stitch can go in any direction and you start with a very loose stitch that goes from point A to point B.

Bring your needle halfway up at the beginning or your loose stitch and grab the end of the thread that is closest to the needle.

Wrap your thread around your needle several times, and push them down towards the fabric. Don't wrap too tightly or it'll be difficult to pull your needle through.

You can carefully lay your wrapped needle against your fabric to see how long it is. Once it's to your desired length, pinch the wrapped thread and needle and carefully pull your needle through.

Don't feel bad if it doesn't work out the first time. The bullion stitch does take a few times to get it down so just try again.

As you pull your needle through, push the wrapped thread down carefully so it lines itself up nice and snug against your fabric.

Push your needle to the back of your fabric at the end of your stitch, and that's it!

Add extra wraps if you want a curved Bullion stitch.

Happy stitching!
