Moving The Burton Step On Lever

A lot of bending and reaching issues caused by my reduction in flexibility have been solved with the Burton Step On bindings. But rumour has it that moving the release levers in between my feet will help just a little bit more. 

So let’s give it a try and find out. 

All you need is a Phillips screwdriver to separate the highback from the baseplate. You’ll notice that both the boot clip and the release lever are built into the bottom section of the highback. You’ll also notice that it can be removed and swapped to the other highback.

Hold up a minute! 

You may be thinking that Burton made each Step On binding specific for your left and right foot, and you’re right.

Each base plate is made for your left or right boot and each highback is made to hold your left or right calf. But Burton made the release mechanism essentially the same on both bindings. The only difference is the lever location. This means you can swap the mechanism onto the other binding to move the release lever.

You can put everything back together in the reverse order you took it apart.

At first glance, reaching my shoulder down to the inside seems to be a bit easier than down to the outside. I guess it's time to get snowboarding and give it a go at the chairlift a few times to know for sure. The snow’s getting ready to fly so it won’t be long.
