First you'll learn about how the Pennsylvania Mainline Canal tackled the 2300 foot obstacle known as the Allegheny Mountains. It's hard to run a canal uphill, but they figured it out.

Next you'll visit the engine house that made pulling canal boats out of the water and up a series of inclines possible.

You'll visit one of the oldest bridges in Pennsylvania and learn how it has remained at an intersection of major highway arteries and finally you'll visit a tavern that was open for the travelers.
