‘Control’ by Janet Jackson was released on October 17, 1986 as the fourth single from Janet’s third studio album of the same name. Janet wrote the track along with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis who also produced it and the track’s music video was directed by Mary Lambert. In the US, ‘Control’ peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot 100 and number one on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Dance Club Play charts. It became her fourth consecutive top-five single on all three charts and her third number one on the R&B chart. By the end of 1987, the song was the 37th biggest single on the Hot 100, the fifth biggest on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and the ninth best-selling 12-inch single of the year.
