Like other healthy nuts such as almonds and walnuts, pecans are incredibly healthy and are a great source of healthy fats. More than that, they are packed with many healthy vitamin, minerals, antioxidants and other nutrients that can improve our health many different ways. You can eat them raw, add them to healthy cereal or oatmeal recipes or even put them in your favourite smoothie. Lets discuss some of the amazing reasons to eat pecans consistently.

1. First, pecans are packed with healthy nutrients and have an incredible nutrient profile. They are rich in riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B6, iron, magnesium and copper among other vitamins and minerals. Pecans are also a great source of healthy fats as mentioned previously, as well as fibre, antioxidants, amino acids and some protein.

2. Surprising to some, but pecan are also very high in antioxidants, which can help to reduce inflammation throughout your entire body and both prevent and reduce oxidative stress. Pecans are specifically high in antioxidant compounds such as phenols, flavonoids and proanthocyanidins. These antioxidant compounds can also help to lower the risk of developing certain diseases.

3. Pecans are also incredibly heart healthy, and can promote the health of our heart and cardiovascular system many ways. Studies have shown that regular consumption of pecans can help to lower cholesterol levels as well as reduce the risk of heart disease. Also, due to their high levels of antioxidants, vitamin E and fibre, they can help help to regulate blood pressure and reduce the risk of hypertension. Pecans can also help to lower the risk of LDL cholesterol oxidation in the body.

4. They can also help to improve brain function and may even help to lower the risk of developing certain neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease. This is attributed to the many different minerals, nutrients and antioxidants pecan contain which help with proper brain functioning. This includes thiamine, copper and manganese. Since they can also help reduce free radical damage and oxidative stress, pecans may lower the risk of degenerative damage. Be sure to discuss with your medical practitioner for further treatment and prevention measures.

5. Lastly, eating pecans can help to improve the overall health of our bones and may help to prevent bone related disorders such as osteoporosis. Again, this is attributed to pecans amazing nutrient profile, which includes bone health nutrients such as copper, manganese and zinc. These nutrients can help to reduce symptoms associated with osteoporosis, help to increase bone mass while decreasing bone loss.
