Tanburi Büyük Osman Bey was a Turkish composer and tanbur player born in Istanbul in 1816. He is considered one of the most outstanding peşrev composers in Ottoman classical music. At the age of eight, he was accepted to the Enderun school, where he learned various subjects, including music and tanbur playing, under the tutelage of renowned music masters of his time. Tanburi Büyük Osman Bey's legacy lives on through the works he composed during his lifetime. Some of his most famous pieces include the Sofyan usulü Nihavend peşrevi and the Hüzzam devr-i kebir peşrevi.
