Beautiful Eyes | Ukraine | Orphan's Promise

Eleven-year-old Anastasia is a sweet little girl, but every day the other kids make fun of her because she was born with crossed eyes.

"When I walk down the street, I hold my head down so that nobody will look at me," Anastasia says.

"Children call her names, like ugly and 'cross-eyes'. She comes home with her eyes red and swollen from crying," her mother says.

Anastasia knows that a simple surgery could fix her eyes.

"My mother and father have no money to pay for my surgery," she says.

Anastasia’s parents barely have enough money to feed their children. A church supported by Orphan’s Promise helps the family with clothing and food. At the church, Anastasia has learned a lot about Jesus Christ.

"I found out that Jesus loves everyone: children and grown-ups; He even loves me!" she smiles.

Anastasia made friends at the church and gave her life to Christ. She says in time, she learned to trust Jesus with all her dreams.

"I prayed and asked Jesus to make my eyes straight, and to make me beautiful," she says.

Then Orphan’s Promise and the church held a medical outreach in Anastasia’s village. The ophthalmologist said she needed surgery, so Orphan’s Promise agreed to pay for it.

"I was so happy when I learned that I would finally be able to have surgery," she says.

"I never thought such a wonderful thing would happen for us," her mother shares.

After 11 years of hoping and dreaming, Anastasia finally had the surgery she needed and left the hospital feeling like a new girl.

"I could see very well right after the surgery. I was so happy!" she says.

Anastasia’s not worried about going to school.

"My eyes are straight now, and I don’t hold my head down when I walk," Anastasia says.

"No one makes fun of her anymore. I am so thankful for that," her mother adds.

"Thank you so much for everything you have done for me," she says.
